FARGO, N.D. (May 11, 2017) The Offutt Family Foundation announces WDAY Honor Flight is the recipient of a grant through its Community Builder program, a unique initiative open to employees of R.D. Offutt Company, parent company of RDO Equipment Co. and R.D. Offutt Farms. The Community Builder program is designed to support charitable organizations employees are engaged in, while building vibrant and prosperous communities where they live and work.
The WDAY Honor Flight is a certified regional hub of the national Honor Flight Network. Since its inception 10 years ago, the WDAY Honor Flight has been recognizing local World War II and Korean War veterans’ service with trips to Washington D.C. to see war memorials. This year, WDAY is publishing a 10-year commemorative book with photographs and stories from the past decade’s trips, as well as 1,000 biographies of veterans who have participated in the flight. The Community Builder grant is helping to publish and distribute the book.
All R.D. Offutt Company team members can apply for a Community Builder grant. As part of the application, the employee explains how the grant will benefit the local community along with information about his/her personal commitment to that organization.
A longtime supporter of the WDAY Honor Flight, Ted Horan, RDO Equipment Co., submitted the Community Builder application after learning of the committee’s plans to publish and distribute the commemorative book. “This project will honor and serve our veterans by sharing their stories and lifting up the sacrifices they made for our country,” he said.
Tracy Briggs, Editor of the WDAY Honor Flight’s commemorative book further spoke to the significance of the grant’s impact on the project and the community, saying, “Because of the generosity of the Offutt Family Foundation, we get the privilege of sharing these amazing stories with the public, not just now, but for years to come. It’s living history and it means so much to us to preserve it.”
Along with WDAY Honor Flight, the Offutt Family Foundation awarded an additional Community Builder grant to the Strasburg Fire Department in Strasburg, ND. A total of $17,000 was awarded to the two charities.
About the Community Builder program
The Community Builder program began in 2015, with the mission of providing an opportunity for engaged employees to nominate a charity whose efforts and programs are making a difference in their communities. Community Builder grants are meant to be transformative and impactful to the benefiting charities. A one-of-a-kind program supported by the Offutt Family Foundation, any team member from R.D. Offutt Company, parent company to RDO Equipment Co. or R.D. Offutt Farms, can apply for a Community Builder grant. Submissions are accepted year-round and grants are awarded two times each year.
